Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2019, Volume 13, Issue 3,   Pages 517-530 doi: 10.1007/s11705-018-1781-0

Abstract: Membranes have attracted much attention as economical methods for industrial chemical processes. The effects of the titanium dioxide nanoparticle load on the morphology and CO /CH separation performance of poly (ether-block-amide) (PEBAX-1657) mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) were investigated from pressures of 3–12 bar and temperatures of 30°C–60°C. The PEBAX membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetric analysis, atomic force microscopy and tensile strength analysis. The incorporation of TiO nanoparticles into the polymeric MMMs improved the CO /CH gas separation performance (both the permeability and selectivity) of the membranes. The CO permeability and ideal CO /CH selectivity values of the nanocomposite membrane loaded with 8 wt-% TiO were 172.32 Barrer and 24.79, respectively whereas those of the neat membrane were 129.87 Barrer and 21.39, respectively.

Shao, Syed M. Imran, Muhammad S. Haider, Hee Taik Kim

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2016, Volume 10, Issue 3,   Pages 405-416 doi: 10.1007/s11705-016-1579-x

Abstract: A sol-gel technique has been developed for the synthesis of a magnetite-silica-titania (Fe O -SiO -TiO ) tertiary nanocomposite with improved photocatalytic properties based on the use of inexpensive titania and silica precursors. The exceptional photocatalytic activity of the resulting materials was demonstrated by using them to photocatalyze the degradation of methylene blue solution. The best formulation achieved 98% methylene blue degradation. An interesting feature of the present work was the ability to magnetically separate and reuse the catalyst. The efficiency of the catalyst remained high during two reuses. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, ultra-violet-visible spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. XRD analysis revealed the formation of multicrystalline systems of cubic magnetite and anatase titania crystals. SEM and TEM characterization revealed well-developed and homogeneously dispersed particles of size less than 15 nm. FTIR spectra confirmed the chemical interaction of titania and silica. It was further noticed that the optical properties of the prepared materials were dependent on the relative contents of their constituent metal oxides.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2020, Volume 21, Issue 6,   Pages 809-962 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900198

Abstract: Rapidly increasing capacities, decreasing costs, and improvements in computational power, storage, and communication technologies have led to the development of many applications that carry increasingly large amounts of traffic on the global networking infrastructure. lead to emerging technologies and play a vital role in rapid evolution. have become a primary 24/7 need in today’s information technology world and include a wide range of supporting processing-intensive applications. Extensive use of many applications on results in increasing complexity of mobile software applications and consumption of resources at a massive level, including smart device battery power, processor, and RAM, and hinders their normal operation. Appropriate resource utilization and energy efficiency are fundamental considerations for because limited resources are sporadic and make it more difficult for users to complete their tasks. In this study we propose the model of mobile energy augmentation using (MEACC), a new framework to address the challenges of massive and inefficient resource utilization in . MEACC efficiently filters the applications to be executed on a smart device or offloaded to the cloud. Moreover, MEACC efficiently calculates the total execution cost on both the mobile and cloud sides including communication costs for any application to be offloaded. In addition, resources are monitored before making the decision to offload the application. MEACC is a promising model for load balancing and reduction in emerging environments.

An untethered cable-driven ankle exoskeleton with plantarflexion-dorsiflexion bidirectional movement assistance Research

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2020, Volume 21, Issue 5,   Pages 723-739 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900455

Abstract: Lower-limb assisted exoskeletons are widely researched for movement assistance or rehabilitation training. Due to advantages of compliance with human body and lightweight, some prototypes have been developed, but most of these can assist only unidirectional movement. In this paper we present an untethered that can achieve plantarflexion-dorsiflexion bidirectional motion bilaterally using a pair of single motors. The main weights of the exoskeleton, i.e., the motors, power supplement units, and control units, were placed close to the proximity of the human body, i.e., the waist, to reduce the redundant rotation inertia which would apply on the wearer’s leg. A cable force transmission system based on gear-pulley assemblies was designed to transfer the power from the motor to the end-effector effectively. A cable self-tension device on the power output unit was designed to tension the cable during walking. The system based on a foot pressure sensor and an inertial measurement unit (IMU) could identify the gait cycle and gait states efficiently. To validate the power output performance of the exoskeleton, a torque tracking experiment was conducted. When the subject was wearing the exoskeleton with power on, the muscle activity of the soleus was reduced by 5.2% compared to the state without wearing the exoskeleton. This preliminarily verifies the positive assistance effect of our exoskeleton. The study in this paper demonstrates the promising application of a lightweight exoskeleton on human motion augmentation or rehabilitation.

A cooperative heterogeneous vehicular clustering framework for efficiency improvement Research Articles

Iftikhar Ahmad, Rafidah Md Noor, Zaheed Ahmed, Umm-e-Habiba, Naveed Akram, Fausto Pedro García Márquez

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 9,   Pages 1247-1259 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000260

Abstract: Heterogeneous ing integrates multiple types of communication networks to work efficiently for various vehicular applications. One popular form of heterogeneous network is the integration of long-term evolution (LTE) and dedicated short-range communication. The of such a network infrastructure and the non- involved in sharing cost/data are potential problems to solve. A ing framework is one solution to these problems, but the framework should be formally verified and validated before being deployed in the real world. To solve these issues, first, we present a heterogeneous framework, named destination and interest-aware clustering, for ing that integrates vehicular ad hoc networks with the LTE network for improving road traffic efficiency. Then, we specify a model system of the proposed framework. The model is formally verified to evaluate its performance at the functional level using a model checking technique. To evaluate the performance of the proposed framework at the micro-level, a heterogeneous simulation environment is created by integrating state-of-the-art tools. The comparison of the simulation results with those of other known approaches shows that our proposed framework performs better.

Chen CHEN, Xiaochen WU, Jie CHEN, Panos M.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2022, Volume 23, Issue 1,   Pages 86-100 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000352

Abstract: The ever-changing environment and complex combat missions create new demands for the formation of mission groups of unmanned combat agents. This study aims to address the problem of dynamic construction of mission groups under new requirements. Agents are heterogeneous, and a method must dynamically form new groups in circumstances where missions are constantly being explored. In our method, a strategy that combines s and response threshold models is proposed to dynamically adjust the members of the mission group and adapt to the needs of new missions. The degree of matching between the mission requirements and the group's capabilities, and the communication cost of are used as indicators to evaluate the quality of the group. The response threshold method and the ant colony algorithm are selected as the comparison algorithms in the simulations. The results show that the grouping scheme obtained by the proposed method is superior to those of the comparison methods.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 7,   Pages 1045-1061 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2200372

Abstract: algebra has been used to apply the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) to color images in a comprehensive approach. However, the discrete fractional random transform (DFRNT) with adequate basic randomness remains to be examined. This paper presents a novel multistage privacy system for s based on discrete fractional Fourier transform (DQFrFT) watermarking and . First, we describe DFRNT (QDFRNT), which generalizes DFRNT to handle signals effectively, and then use QDFRNT to perform . To efficiently evaluate QDFRNT, this study derives the relationship between the QDFRNT of a signal and the four components of the DFRNT signal. Moreover, it uses the human vision system’s (HVS) masking qualities of edge, texture, and color tone immediately from the color host image to adaptively modify the watermark strength for each block in the using the QDFRNT-based and support vector machine (SVM) techniques. The limitations of watermark embedding are also explained to conserve watermarking energy. Second, 3D-CLM is employed to improve the system’s security and efficiency, allowing it to be used as a multistage privacy system. The proposed security system is effective against many types of channel noise attacks, according to simulation results.
